The pony is decked out in style with a wonderful child's saddle--This little girl is seated comfortably, and looks in command! There was a drifter in my neighborhood about 1942 that gave kids pony rides..for $
I so recall this.My grandma told me "Not To" but every time I got off, I kissed the pony as close to his mouth as I could. With granny scolding-- my dad always stepped up and said " Go ahead and kiss the horse honey...that' s nice"!Ha Ha. They never agreed on how to raise me.
You got to ride a pony! I got to ride with a black guy & his manure wagon drawn by a sway-back. I'm jealous! LOL!!
But you probably had more FUN than I did!
Thanks for "love".
Good chance. Always free & every week. Guy was real nice & loved kids. The horse wasn't really a sway-back but fairly well kept. Wooden wagon wheels even. Sure better than puter games kids grow up with now! Number of experiences with horses since. Each has it's own personality, good or bad.
I had a horse, ("angel") mule,("Dooley") and raccoon ("Crazy") in my yard for several years. There was a lot of laughing every day! I agree computer games and cell, texting are making kids "nuts".
Texting is making me nuts! In a few generations, people probably won't be able to lift their heads. "What was the colour of her eyes?". "I don't know but her shoes were red & white". LOL!!
Ha Ha Ha!! My neck is cracking so bad it wakes me up when I sleep. I was typing 25 years as editor of a publication-- Now I am paying for it. I need a few months in Hawaii, laying flat on the beach to recover from "life"!
You two crack me up!
Nice post PCC.
That's a great memory PostCardCollector and lovely photo. I agree with all of the above discussions too! I was brought up to play in the back yard (and all around the suburb for that, as long as I was home for dinner!) and lots of wonderful animals were important parts of my life .. all sorts. I do have some postcard photos of my father as a very little boy sitting on ponies and jinkers where they lived close to town in the "old days". Perhaps might post some of those some time soon. Hawaii isn't a bad idea either. :) lol
OK you stumped me --what is a jinker??I always do love photos--Do you have one with dad sitting on a jinker??
Hi PCC, a "Jinker" is a two wheeled cart hitched up to one horse. It usually carried 1 - 4 people. I'm not sure but I think a "Trap" was a similar cart used in America.:) I do have some photos, they are quite old, will have rummage around tomorrow and post them. Thanks for the interest. X
Thanks for the explanation. I have never heard the term "jinker" used. I'd love to see old photos.
