Awesome JAPANESE Studio Art Pottery Charger

I bought this yesterday at a mall because I thought it was so cool and well-made. I also have a memory somewhere of seeing something maybe this exact piece sell for a very high price, so it could be rare and important. Or it could be nothing. But I love it.

I can tell the last character is "zan" but I'm still working on the first character. Its hard to even identify the radicals in that kanji but I may be able to.

Anyone have any opinions?
