This belonged to my Grandfather and was discovered after my grandmother passed away. My grandfather was Italian American and served in WW1. He was aCatholic. I would like any information about this item I can find.

It is a trench art cross.
These were a popular souvenir item during the Great War (WW1).
The roundel is from a German buckle and the rest is from bullets and shell casings.
If you'd like to see a variety of trench art pieces, take a look at my postings. I am a trench art collector and have many of my items posted on this site.
Thanks for sharing and welcome to CW!

I love the use of the German motto "God Is With Us" on a crucifix!
Shell casings are French
Scott Thank you so much for your comments and the information
Chris thank you for the info on the shells as well.
