But it not has the other symbols or marks like a cross and the asterisk
I'm not sure what brand your knife is but it's German (or Austrian/Bohemian which amounts to the same thing); it's definitely not English. There was an "Ignatz Rosler's Sons" cutlery firm that used a similar mark. Perhaps one of the sons was J--- Rosler and used this mark later. I can't find any info. This type of knife is often miss-identified as a "hobo" knife - that's a completely different thing but the mistake is so common it's almost not worth fighting anymore. It is properly called a "slot" knife due to the slots & holes that allow it to be disassembled. It's a very nice one in excellent condition.
All the European makers marks for European cuttlery was a bust for me too. The one that it looks like on ebay has no marks anc is not as good looking as yours. Let us know if you find out.

I just ordered a new reference book that may help. I'll have it in a week or so. Prices are really subjective. A collector of slot knives might pay a lot to get a rare mark; a collector of widely recognized brands would not want it. $50 to $150 would be a safe range. If it's older than I think, say 1890 - 1920, it would be worth more.

If you go on ebay and search for "hobo knife" (see my comment above) you'll find many slot knives. You can see the similarity of your mark to the Ignatz Rosler mark. I have several IR knives with variations on that mark which is why I think the JR mark was a son/relative.

Sohne (with the umlaut) means "sons" in German. The "J" in your mark is actually an "I". The I-R-S with crossed arrows mark that you linked to is the mark for "Ingatz Rosler's Sons" founded by two of the original Rosler's nephews and operated from 1865 thru 1945. Your mark is probably an early version which deliberately borrowed from the original Rosler mark for marketing purposes.
