I volunteer at an animal charity thrift store and received this item as a donation. It contains 56 painter figures mounted inside the box as shown and has small stickers with Chinese symbols beside each figure. Any help

They are probably depicting regional traditional clothing in China. "Arts & Crafts era" is wrong category. (That is for items made in the Arts & Crafts era 1910's - 30's)

Each one represents the 56 different ethnic groups in China.
