When I bought my Jade ring the stall holder put this on the table, he said I couldn't touch this piece, but if I gave the correct answer it would be a free gift. Not one to throw a challenge up I looked it over, the clue he gave me was you could use it for smoking. I stood and stared for about 10 minutes remember I couldn't touch it so I couldn't see the bottom. My first answer was did it have anything to do with a pipe, nope, he was going to take it away and I said oh come on let me have another guess, well I thought the only thing I could come up with was something to do with cigars, so I mentioned this and he said I was near enough and he gave it to me. When I looked up the name L.C. Hardtmuth who are an Austrian company, and the patient number I found it was a sprung cigar punch. I think it's from the 1900s and is probably made of brass.

    Many thanks for looking

Thanks CindB, yes it's cool. I was going back to Spain on Sunday, I've decided to stay for a couple of more weeks. I'll have another look on his stall next week. :-))

That is really AWESOME!! I would have never guessed what this is. I've seen cigar cutters, but never a cigar punch. So cool!!!

Hi Scott, yes it's pretty neat, I always thought of cigar cutters, not a cigar punch. Thanks as always for passing by and taking a interest.

Hey Jean, sounds like a great seller....well done!
I have one of these as well by the same maker........silverplate by the look of it with a ring to attach to a watchchain.

Hi Judy, mine isn't silver plate, I have seen them online, this one smells of brass, even though in some places it seems to have worn off. Unfortunately this doesn't have the ring attached but I'm sure I could find one. I was going back to Spain on Sunday, but I've decided to stay in the U.K. For a extra 3 weeks. Next Tuesday I'll have another look at the stall and see what other goodies he has.

I'm Spending some quality time with my Mum. I was suppose to come back to Blighty at the end of January, a family gathering, so I've decided instead of living out of a suitcase like I've done for the las 3 WKs, I'm chilling, sounds a good plan.

It is a good plan Jean and your mum will be loving having you there!

Great story Jean. I've never heard of a cigar punch, so I had to look it up. Very interesting piece, congrats!

Was meaning to say Jean that we have always called ours a cigar Piercer!! Not sure if there is a difference between a punch and a piercer.......will have to google tomorrow..........

Oh great....thanks Jean!! There are some interesting and nice tobacco related items to be found!
Speaking of tobacco.....my husband and I have not had a cigarette for coming up to 16 weeks now!!!! Quite pleased with ourselves since we had been smokers for 45+ years........ and we haven't even killed each other LOL! :)

Hi Judy, it's great to hear that you and your better half have taken the plunge and given up smoking. I gave up 10 years ago, I also gave up for 3 years before then, what ever you do don't give in to temptation.
