This syrup dispenser has the maker's mark of the Owens-Illinois Glass Company on its underside. It is a diamond with oval over it. Chances are the numbers around it would be a shop number. Owens-Illinois was around from 1929 - 1950s. There is also a patent number on the handle from 1937. Likely this is from around 1940-1950.
Looks like this would have been used in a diner. I think most people would just use syrup from the bottle at home.

When I grew up in Vermont every place you went to eat had these on the table with real maple syrup in them. I used to love a big spoon of maple syrup in my morning coffee. Thanks for bringing back a fond memory from long ago.

Thank you very much fhrjr2. I don't see the syrup dispensers at restaurants too often. They give you a little shot glass thing with syrup.

Yes now days it is quite different but 60 years ago they were on every table and the counter right beside the jukebox. They were also used to put cream in for coffee.
