"Arnochrome" (Germany, )"Autochrom",“Heliochrom” were offered from c. 1901 on. There are many, many other similar process names around, each firm had their little secrets how to prepare the printing form, color arrangements etc, in an early color photography process.
Now with quality halftone process at hand, companies like Louis Glaser from Leipzig entered the market with their “Autochrom” process. The image by halftone and the colors added by litho process, usually 3-4 additional color runs. This resulted in an attractive “colored photo” type view, although the coloring not always matched with reality
Patented in 1903 and first marketed in 1907, it was the principal color photography process in use before the advent of subtractive color film in the mid-1930s
My cards are printed in Saxony--(Germany) and ARE early examples of the process. many don't recognize them. I did, and have a couple of winners here. mailed in the USA, to Belvue,Kansas June 15, 1910, and Burlington,Kansas on Feb 4, 1911 The forward facing girl and dog is a card with creasing. The other is quite alright. One thing about this process of a gel coating is the cards now are chipping, and creasing and curling were probably discarded decades ago for that reason. These are becoming somewhat obscure because of it. I am very fond of these--Old bathing scenes, and a really a cute suit for a change , and a sweet loving dog!!
