Very Old, well made Bowie. 12" blade, 5' handle (wood). 3 rivet and burr rivets in handle.

3 stars stamped into lower part of blade by hilt on both sides.

VERY well made scabbard. Wood covered in leather.

I know I've seen this maker mark before but I can't remember where - does anyone have any knowledge about its history?

It appears that the blade sit down inside an area that projects out from the guard. Is this correct?

It's a full tang blade. There is a brass hand gaurd that may give that appearance if that's what you're referring to.

I don't see the tang's edge between two handle slabs. It appears that the handle is a solid piece with the tang fully enclosed inside it. Maybe it's just the angle of the pics. But the question was: it appears that the ricasso of the blade fits down inside a shallow "well" which is part of the handguard. It that the construction?
