    i don't know whether this is supposed to hold incense or dried flowers or what? it isn't a vase to hold water because it can't - the bottom is open!

    i think that this is probably 1940s or 50s, but i don't really know.

      this is a 'spill vase' from late 1920s-1930s. 'spill' is from 'spile' - a piece of wood used to transfer fire from one implement to another. for fireplace matches or small pieces of kindling. interesting...
