came across this old wood carved mask. no information came wit. This was from Baltimore Md. any help with tribal i.d. would be appreciated. After further research and looking this might not be an African mask looking at the nose does not appear to go with the African tribes. maybe an Asian mask

Looks like an artifact. But then, there are newer ones that pass as fakes--yet still SO INTERESTING!!

I really enjoyed seeing it Thanks for sharing!!Looks like Ancient Chinese or Japanese hair ( or hat style) seen on very old paintings! I too, think it IS Asian
There are people here that would know that, but action here today is very slow. Sometimes people get more into CW at night. You have a wonderful item!

I think you can fill out a form online for the Smithsonian to take a look at your item, You need to send a good representation of photos and a self addressed , stamped envelope for return. No estimates of value--just info on what you have. I don't know if they will STILL do this--- Also a reputable Asian Auction House will generally do the same, with notice if they will accept your item for an upcoming auction or not. Just some ideas you might want to play around with.
