I'm now 48 and I can remember growing up with these on the mantlepiece. I've no idea about how old they are, whether they are made in the UK (numbered) represent Japanese or Chinese children. The maker's stamp is impossible for me to make out but I'm sure that somebody out there can point me in the right direction. Figurines are around two inches tall.

Very cute and the detail is perfect on them so they are leading me to think Chinese but someone here will know I just loved them :-) However Japanese were noted for making those big eyes :-)

I tend toward Chinese also, based on the clothes. I wonder if they were painted in British Hong Kong?
