During World War 2 here in the UK, the situation being grim for everbody, some had a disappointing war.

Some young lads were not chosen for the Military they were sent down the mines to produce coal for the war effort and small sized mining helmets were produced.

Its unlikely that it sat on a happy head as the owner was ordered to the mines and remained there for the war effort.
