    Found this item in our mother's old dresser. If it helps, she was born in 1926. We think it's made of brass.

      Could it be a sweater clasp for women.

      Some kind of tie bar I believe. The clasp grabs the edge of the tie and that bar goes in front of the tie, below the clasp, while the other part goes around, through the button hole and goes into the back of the clasp. Make sense?
