This was my grandfather's humidor and I believe it is from the 1940's or early 1950's. I believe it was purchased from a local furniture store in middle Tennessee but could have been bought in Detroit, Michigan as well.

Can anyone tell me what the metal plate in the door is for and if it is still operable?

SamuelsKE, I believe the metal plate in your door would hold like a sponge or some type of cloth that was wet that would keep moisture in your humidor for your tobacco.
