I recently acquired this old school/writing desk at an estate sale and I am very much ignorant as to its origins, era and what type of desk it exactly is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to CW! I believe it is called a writing arm chair. It does look old, but it looks like a vintage piece. I'm not an expert either, hopefully someone with more knowledge will stop by.

Beautiful! This could be called a gossip bench or gossip chair. The telephone would sit on side table, hence the name Gossip Chair/Bench. Good luck! Its a keeper!
