Came across this item at an auction and am not quite sure how it was used. It looks like your typical 1920's drum headlight, but there are no markings to be found on it and the glass is clear, not faceted like a fresnel lens. Would it have been used as a spotlight rather than a headlamp? Or wasn't it meant for automotive use at all? There are two spots on the outside back where it could be slid onto a rod or dowel with set screws to hold it in position, but no indication that another handle or connector was ever attached. The Portland OR Expo reference on the paper around the circumference of the lens, research indicates, is to a proposed fair that never made it past a failed ballot initiative to pay for it. The paper is not translucent, so it likely isn't designed for a 'bat signal' effect. Overall size is 9.5" across and 5" deep. The bulb is vintage, with a tail on the bulb end and no other wiring present.

    Any input welcome.
