Picked up this trunk at an auction. On pickup it was accidentally locked. There are no identifying characteristics on outside. Can't get inside. Contacted Brettuns Village in US re a key. They say 01 key doesn't exist, I have looked through thousands of pictures looking for another one like this trunk with the crisscross leather with no luck. Surely someone else has a trunk like this! Have searched for an 01 key all over ebay in several countries, also no luck. Trunk belonged to F Francis who came to Canada from UK circa 1850s. Family thought it was military trunk but upon contacting Royal Canadian Military unit in Toronto, am told definitely civilian trunk. So it could be from UK or possibly other commonwealth countries or imported. Am stumped. Was hoping to find a match to work out maker of trunk to narrow down possible key. Any ideas or suggestions?

Trunk is not from 1850's , Early 1900 to 1920's give or take a bit, also not leather, it is vulcanized fiber, if you really like the trunk and can't find a key, remove the lock and replace it with one like it that has a key, greendog.
