This is an ashtray. The center is for snuffing out your cigarette. Looks like a California piece. Try looking at Google Images. :D

      Rustypearlvintage, Cool.

Yup, it has a 1960s/1970s vibe.

nutsabotas6, I hadn't thought about the cylindrical center piece being used for cigarette stubbing. I was thinking that it might be a pipe knocker.

art.pottery, Thanks for the tip. :-)

Rustypearlvintage, No, I don't think you were.

I did a search for "vintage Treasure Craft candle holder," and found these:

      *snip*

Set of 2 Circa 1960 Mid Century Vintage Treasure Craft Pottery Orange Glaze Candle Holders

      *snip*

      https://www.etsy.com/sg-en/listing/226438197/set-of-2-circa-1960-mid-century-vintage

I wouldn't have thought that a candle holder designed to hold a taper would have such a large dish surrounding the taper support, but what do I know?

Most of the pipe knockers I've seen have been solid, so your piece does make more sense as a candle holder.

Rustypearlvintage, You're welcome. CW user art.pottery's tip about Treasure Craft and Pottery Craft helped narrow things down a lot. :-)

The candle holders I linked don't have quite the same finish as yours, but Treasure Craft seems to have made plenty of pieces with texture.
