Hi everyone. Still need a better camera and some real skills at this ;) sorry 'bout that. Picked this little gem up at Goodwill today for $1.29. It is Bryce Bro. "Princess" pattern, c.1883. The Princess pattern came in two variations. Daisy and Button w/ Finecut, and Daisy and Button w/ Prism. This example is the "Prism" variation. I have seen catalog and in person examples of both. Does anyone (Tallcakes:)) know any more info on the variations? Was one version made before the other? Is one variation more common than the other? The sleuthing never stops .........:) Thanks everyone.
have you checked at EAPGS.org where multiple examples are noted? I'm not familiar with the pattern personally but EAPGpatterns has the following noted comment about the 2 patterns: "There is strong evidence that the OMN is Princess. It is possible that Daisy and Button with Prisms is also a Bryce Brothers pattern, but we have not found evidence beyond appearance to support this claim."

Interesting....I was gathering my initial info from eapgs.org. They have a photo of a catalog showing the creamer, sugar, covered butter and a covered sugar I believe. It's labeled "Our "Queen" set". The creamer and the 2 covered items all have the Daisy and Button panel w/ the Finecut panel along the corners. The open sugar however has the same Daisy and Button but with the 3 Prism panel/corner. I think it's unusual that any maker would want a 4 piece set not to match. Your thoughts and wisdom?

I looked at that "Queen" set sheet and do not see any buttons; just see daisy and finecut details. Your piece looks like the Princess piece with daisy and buttons along with the finecut motif. It seem odd to conclude from a sheet called "Queen" would be noted as a variant of the Princess pattern.
Well I figured the "Queen" term was being used as more of a selling point...a play on words with the pattern's name. But on that page if you look closely you will see the "prisms" alongside the main Daisy/Button panel. There are 3...arranged vertically each just over 1/2 inches in length. Some of the photos on eapgs.org show the Prisms on the open sugar in better detail.
looking closer at the Queen ad sheet I can make out the prisms and buttons; tho' those drawings are difficult to discern. Both the Princess set and Queen set ads look to be sales catalog pages rather than mfg. catalogs; thus may not be any help in discerning the actual OMN; EAPGS doesn't share how they determined that name to be the OMN; youou might check with their facebook group.
Given that both variations are shown in the Queen set ad would indicate that both variance were produced at the same time.
wow...another path of thought...sales catalogs vs mfg. catalogs....never thought of that. :) Thank you again for your wisdom TC. I completely agree with the it being made at the same time...I just have this drive to be as exact as possible when researching glass. The more you know...the more you enjoy :) Have a Happy New Year!
