I love the graphics on this one. A little bummed that someone had used tape to hold it shut though. Best part came when I opened it, I found 4 pages from some sort of ledger, two dated April 1897, July 1897 and August 1897.
That was some tough thread: carpets, buttons and fishing line....and for use by bachelors. :^)
Great vintage packaging! Aunt Lydia looks like a real no - nonsense gal, too. Is there any thread remaining? I imagine that it may have been a pure linen thread as this is a sturdy, all purpose thread suitable for all kinds of mending. Love the recommendation for bachelors, too...
What a treasure to find! And the graphics are beautiful!
My Mother was a seamstress ( not by trade, she just sewed beautifully). She had one of those fold out sewing “baskets” that had drawers that opened up sideways. It was like a piece of furniture, stood on 4 legs, made of wood. Any way, it was full of antique buttons, threads (wooden spools) all sorts of sewing items. I don’t sew, ( never had the patience), so I gave the whole thing to a sewing teacher at a local school. She was thrilled, and I believe Mom would of been glad I past her sewing “basket” to someone who
loved to sew and teach others to.
Wish I could read what cost $449.50 back then. They wrote so small....
