Didsbury — 1889. This is the framed photo I have here. The negative for it might be lost. This was photographed in the late 1970s or early 1980s, apparently. I have spoken to the Estevan photographer, and he cannot find the negatives from his trip. This is from my collection. I don't think he made more than five prints of this; maybe not even that many. Heard he had done this shoot, and requested this decades ago. Photog was/is a family friend, but photography is his business. Don’t know if the Saskatchewan government or the archives in Regina have this or not. The frame is age-appropriate, if refinished. The house, barns, auxiliary buildings (behind the main house) have fallen to rubble and are lost — in states of total disrepair.
I have additional photos of the main barn, other buildings — not professional; my doing.
This is not in the park. It is on private rural property, and at this time no public roads access it. Best idea — Do not attempt to approach now. Decayed buildings & underground structures on surrounding land make it all very dangerous.
There is material available (online) about the Becktons, Didsbury, Cannington Manor.
Mahogany Frame (Appropriate, for sure) — Approximately 25” x 30”
Don't think they had this in the hardcover book on Sask. stone houses, will check again, this is one of the nicest - I think the largest was at Indian Head, and I remember finding a pic of one of the largest, but was torn down and they only have the stone barn, which they had to take down, piece by piece and put up again ! This picture is a real keeper, amazing !~

Eileen — Too bad, certainly. Saskatchewan government never were too interested in preserving Didsbury. Too large, perhaps. Arguments include that it was built incorrectly initially, but that sounds like such an excuse. There were other beautiful stone houses built around the same area, same craftsmen, during those years ... and they have been preserved.
