    These lasts would have been fitted into a wooden block and used by clog makers to attach the irons to the wooden sole. The short projecting part was used to widen the iron or hammer it to make it narrower to fit the sole. Last pic shows a bundle of irons and a clogger's hammer used to tack the leather upper to the sole.

      Interesting! My great great great grandfather was apprenticed to become a shoemaker at age 8 years old when his father died unexpectedly in his early thirties in Virginia. That was in 1738. I can't actually prove that he ever worked as an apprentice or followed that trade, but one of his cousins was later in the trade, so maybe he was too. Always interesting to see vintage shoe making tools. Thanks for posting!

      Thank you kwqd, I think most people have a shoemaker in the family somewhere, they were important tradesmen in everywhere.
