Sancho Panza is from Don Quixote.
Panza means belly in Spanish.

Ouro [Espana] is engraved into the base. And on the bottom is "No. 1022/1".

I believe these were made in the early 1970s? Ouro(Espana) is the company that made these statues. They had several different carvers. This one is very well done and way more detailed compared to other examples. The No 1022/1 ...1022 is a model number. Not sure what the 1 represents?

Some interesting facts about this particular piece. The Ouro [Espana] is engraved into the side vs other examples that are ink stamped on the bottom.

Also the No 1022/1 is in pen vs ink stamped. Possibly the /1 represents a master carving that other carvers would use as a reference? This example is very detailed vs other examples.
