set of four handle-less coffee cups (?)

I *guess* that's what these are, anyway -- though I can't say why somebody apparently thinks the handles on coffee cups are too much bother...??? Oh, well, there's a nifty set of four here, all with a kinda cool pattern involving lots of browns with a maybe symbol motif that might be of Asian or Tribal designs, or maybe is just something random -- but it does seem to match on all four cups. There are no maker's marks.

Does anybody recognize anything to suggest what they really are and/or how old they are and/or where they came from, or anything else about them??
