It is a carved box covered in coins, some dating back to early 1800's, some I can't see the date. Inside the lining on the lid was a photo etched on metal. I am trying to find the history of the coins

Sad picture. There were some nice coins and tokens in this batch until some ding-a-ling ruined them. Date range from the 1700's to early 1930's.
