Old copper plaque, I inherited this along with a few other bits from an elderly neighbour, I have looked for info on this many times cut can’t find one similar. Unsure of its age but he had it as long as I knew him which was 20yrs. Any info would be great as it’s such a lovely item, thanks again in advance.

A: Theotokos derives from the Greek terms: Theos / 'God'; and tiktein / 'to give birth'. Mary is the Theotokos, the one who gave birth to God.

this theotokis is a The Eleusa (from Greek - tenderness or showing mercy) is a type of depiction of the Virgin Mary in icons in which the infant Jesus Christ is nestled against her cheek. In the Western church the type is often known as the Virgin of Tenderness.

other type of theotokis with the guiding meaning is A Hodegetria[a], or Virgin Hodegetria, is an iconographic depiction of the Theotokos (Virgin Mary) holding the Child Jesus at her side while pointing to him as the source of salvation for humankind. The Virgin's head usually inclines towards the child, who raises his hand in a blessing gesture. In the Western Church this type of icon is sometimes called Our Lady of the Way.

The most venerated icon of the Hodegetria type, regarded as the original, was displayed in the Monastery of the Panaghia Hodegetria in Constantinople, which was built specially to contain it. Unlike most later copies it showed the Theotokos standing full-length. It was said to have been brought back from the Holy Land by Eudocia, the wife of emperor Theodosius II (408–450), and to have been painted by Saint Luke the apostle himself.[1] The icon was double-sided,[2] with a crucifixion on the other side, and was "perhaps the most prominent cult object in Byzantium".[3]

ic xc is just the christogram , some dude called jesus christ

the “IC XC” is a Christogram, a monogram of Jesus’ name. “Jesus Christ”, when it is translated into Greek, looks like this:

      ?????? ???????

If we take the first and last letters of ?????? (“Jesus”) and ??????? (“Christ”) we are left with:

      ?? ??

The sigma character (“?”) was often represented using a lunate sigma which looks like a “C”, thereby giving us:

      IC XC

as you can see , a line (“titlo”) is often placed over each pair of letters to indicate that it is an abbreviated sacred name.so to make long story short “IC XC” is yet another shorthand for writing “Jesus Christ” in Greek.
