I bought this landscape painting at an Internet auction. Unsigned. Oil on canvas. 40 cm X 51 cm. It looks very much like a painting by the Dutch landscape painter Jacob van Ruisdael (1628-1682). His landscapes from the Netherlands, Germany and Norway were bleak, torn by wind and rain. Some believe they were reflections of his own mind. He was very productive. More than 700 paintings are known. Not all signed. Is this painting in fact by JvR ?

watch at the way the nimbostrayus and the cumules is painted , that answers your question
