Dean Strawn (American, 1920-1994) received his training at University of California Los Angeles, and studied under Marguerite Wildenhain, F. Carlton Ball, Bernard Leach, Peter Voulkos, and others. In Japan, he studied in Mashiko with Sh?ji Hamada and exhibited at the Syracuse Nationals in 1950's. In addition, he was artist in residence at the Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, Montana, 1954-55.
(His brother, Cecil (Gib) Strawn Jr., was also a student of Wildenhain and an artist in residence at the Bray Foundation, as well as Associate Professor of Art at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb)
