      The plastic construction suggests that this set was manufactured in the 1950's. You could check completed Ebay auctions to get some idea as to value.

      Not enough pictures of the cars and engine to help, but probably late 50's.
      Look on the bottom of the box. Depending on who made the box for Marx, there may be a year along with the box maker info.

      I have a train set just like yours with the exact same cars. Mine was given to me as a Christmas present from Santa Claus in 1957. I found your post when trying to find out more about my train. I played with mine for many years. I've misplaced the instructions, but remember using Q-tips to clean off the dirty "grease" around the engine gears and re-lubricating with vaseline.
