I am very curious to know what this was used on or with. It is 3 inches tall and about 1 3/4 inches across. It wieghs about 2 pounds. As you can see it is acorn shaped. My guess is a counter wieght for something.... but what? Has anyone come across one of these before? We found it while cleaning out an old farm house.

Looks like a plumb bob to me. If it is cast it is old. New ones are brass.

Thanks fhrjr2, I thought about that but it seemed large and heavy for one. But sure could be.

I have five pound plumb bobs that were used when Rockerfeller Plaza was built up in Albany NY. Distance you are hanging it dictates the weight you use. Actually 2 pounds is about average for general carpentry.
