i was told that this is a antique opium pipe.material is either ivory ?,bamboo.this is a complete smoking item and very old. purchased at yard sale and was told it s a opium pipe what do you think

It is very hard to tell without expert opinion.There is an article on opium pipes which I have just read.Found very interesting.It may help

The black flecks through the material show it in probably bone.I am not sure what sort but someone else here may help.

I know this posting is quite old now, but yes, it is an opium pipe. There are many different forms of them. This one appears to be bone. I hope you still have it as the vintage ones are bringing quite good money now, though there are many modern day fakes/replicas out there.
