I bought this on eBay just to learn to sew with, and sew business stuff with. The woman said it was nice. She didn't say it was MINT. I'm afraid to touch it!!!!!

Oh I'm sorry, didn't I mention that? I was pretty excited I'd just got it. It is the 185J. I just love it. Managed to break the needle after trying to figure it out on my own, manual isn't here yet. I didn't know what the BOBBIN was for, that's how new I am to machines. Thanks, cheryl

Thaks for the info, I have nothing b ut questions. I loaded the bobbin like i found on a blog online for this type of machine, and then thought, ok, now what. I didn't know you were supposed to go down and let the needle catch that thread too before you started. So I guess I'm learning some thing quick, like how to take apart a 185J and look for a broken needle :-)

There is a free downloadable manual here, enter 185 in the search box.

There is a free manual at Singer website. I keep trying to leave a link but it doesn't work. Go to accessories, then instruction manuals.

If you do a search for 'singer manual' you should find it

Thank you so much. I found out you could get them free after ordering a 7 buck CD from eBay :-) I have it now, and she and I are just happily sewing along!! Cheryl
