I bought this at the local flea market. I thought it was a railroad lantern and didn't pay much attention to it until I was later told that it's not. It's a Traffic Gard (that's how they spelled it) #40. Was told that the old road crews used these lanterns after dark to warn people about construction and other issues along the road.
