Experimental Planchet State Quarters are my absolute favorite coins in the world and I think it's a shame that they're overshadowed by the Quarter/Dollar "Mule", albeit a beautiful coin in it's own right. 1. Lovely Planchet.
  2. Absolutely beautiful specimen there.
  3. That is easily one of the most beautiful errors I've ever seen. I can't even describe my envy.
  4. Also; there are a great deal of error varieties who's values are either inflated or "stabilized" because it costs X amount of money to verify them, and once their value goes below the attribution fee ...
  5. Unfortunately "Who you know" Is a VERY big part of it. Another huge problem is that all of the grading companies (all but one of which are younger than me even though I'm only 34) inevitably involve a...
  6. I feel your pain. Unfortunately there are a great deal of people who are quick to dismiss various coins that are extremely rare or that are often mistaken for another forrm; and just as often there ar...
  7. Cuds are a form of die break where the die that stamps the coin breaks at the corner of the coin, causing a large blob of metal that often obscures part of the coin's edge or even the traits of the co...
  8. Unfortunately the pictures are entirely too small for me to say anything definitive but it looks to me more like the machine used to "color" the coin was offset and printed the color in the wrong area...
  9. That is really intriguing. I'd need to see better pictures/more angles to be able to give you an idea of what it possibly is; but I'd definitely hang onto those if I were you. Some of the most fascin...
  10. That is a beautiful coin. While it is most likely a gold or other alloy plated coin; one thing I have tried pointing out to people is that, due to the sheer amount of coins that have been altered due ...
  11. I love the State Quarters. They basically revitalized the coin collecting market almost single-handedly...which is a pretty tall order considering the vast majority of "Coin Experts" have a lack of et...
  12. Neat coin but TubeAmp is probably right on the ball in terms of a roader. You'd be surprised how many interesting ways coins can be corroded or stained either on purpose or simply through the statisti...
  13. While it isn't entirely impossible that a planchet could've managed to ride in the hopper for several years (as yours is right around the weight of the low end of the experimental planchet spectrum) i...
  14. Nothing like the oldschool Brass-Barrel-Blunderbusses. I'd love to smelt my own "horn" for one of these one day but I imagine it'd take some elaborate form of hardening process or a hell of a well tho...
  15. Very lucky to have such a beautiful assortment of Indian Heads. I only have five; though I am blessed enough to have a beautiful 1863 made of the wartime alloy. They're as thick as a half dollar and h...
  16. Unfortunately this is likely just a gold-plated replica. There are some Manganese Brass experimental quarters floating about out there but all of them are 1999 (like yours) but are Philadelphia mint o...
  17. I do believe that is a real experimental. It's a little hard to say without seeing it in a video (to check for a pinwheel/cartwheel) but it's not only in the proper weight range, it's got the proper a...
