Can anyone read this??? I have the original box and I believe the receipt is there too. The thing is, it looks like you can see the "Marrow" especially in the forks! I just remembered something, someone told me it was Baleen, does anyone know???

The shape and feel are awesome tho, it just drives me crazy not knowing.
There are Five 5" plates and Five 4.25" forks.

The last pic is paper that's glued to the outside of the box. Maybe that tells some of the story here.

Ok Karen and TubeAmp!!! I'm counting on you two. Anyone else with input will be appreciated! I'm crossing my fingers and toes! :)

No, I don't think it is baleen. Baleen was used in instances where flexibility, strength and a degree of springiness was needed, like petticoat hoops, dress stays, eyeglass rims, magnifying glass rims etc. It is normally white or black, in narrow pieces, and has never been cheap!
These look 60s, s0 maybe a type of resin?
There would only ever have been five in the set BTW.

If they are natural materials, I would go with horn. The whale may just be part of early kawaii marketing.

Ahhh. Interesting info from both of you. I had no idea those old petticoats were made of that, always wondered what that stuff the stays were made of that hurt the ribs and poke you too :)

And yes, when I looked up Baleen, I noticed it mostly looked like Ivory, I forgot to come back in and comment on that!

Now "Horn" makes sense to me for the forks because I have them in my hand and can see them and you can see what looks like marrow, so the whale for marketing makes sense. And Karen, the resin makes sense as for the plates. Hmm, interesting.

I think I'll change the photos around and maybe someone will be able to read it.

Thank you both for your input! Love you back :) I'll try and get a pic of the end of the fork too!

The label literally says "craft objects made with baleen."
