Hello, I'm trying to figure out what this was used for. It has a wooden handle that is shaped like an octagon, with a small hook of the same shape that slides up and down. The bottom has 2 cast wheels, 2 forks (as for picking up), and a straight metal shelf/rail...
I feel like it was used for moving ice blocks or even logs... One person has said it looks like a cultivator, but there doesn't seem to be anywhere for attachments... Thanks for the help!

You didn't give any dimensions but it looks like a barrel dolly to me. Sideways pictures don't help a bit.

fhrjr2 - same thought, barrel dolly, but lack of dimensions makes us just guess
      - need the measurement between the wheels

That hook that slides up the handle with the rounded back brace pretty much says it. Not an antique but old.

Sorry for the pics, unsure why they're being spun. Measurements are 52.5" high, 17" wide, and 7" wheels...

You need to post your photos from a computer and not a mobile device. You should be able to rotate the photos on your computer.
For some reason photos from mobile devices come out sideways and upside down and we have to take a drink every time that happens.

Thanks fortapache. All my mental excuses for having a drink before getting on CW have seemed lame. Your's, I can live with!
Now, to the problem at hand! I don't think the wheel span is wide enough opposed to the depth of the handle/back plate to be for barrels. The leverage ratio is for something really heavy. Maybe (granite etc.) slabs such as grave stones. The iron wheels tell us that it's not for rolling on soft surfaces.
