This is an Illinois Watch co,Sangamo Special RR watch,as far as I can tell is was built in 1924 and it's all original and still runs.

Very nice railroad watch! The Sangamo's are of super high quality...and I love the Sangamo case! You should get it cleaned and serviced if you're going to carry it though. That regulator being set all the way over is a dead give-a-way that it's running sluggish because it's dirty. Check ebay for comparables but I think it's easily a $300 watch...even with the dial issues...

I really should get it cleaned and serviced but I really doubt that I would carry it anyway,it's the only good RR watch that I own at present.I check ebay occasionally to see what they're bringing but most that you see don't have the Sangamo case.

I have the fancier face version, also with conditions and was running when I bought it for 35.00 at auction. I went to carry it one day in my suit coat and the man that collects watch fobs did not have one on his watch ... and I dropped it. The ballance staff is broke.

As you check "Chuck-it-in-the-Bay" (my new name for e-Bay) wouldn't yours bring more than 300.00 even there?

Possibly,I've been watching the one linked by toolate2 to see what it brings,I've heard people say that mint Sangamo watches are worth about $3500 and there are a few on the auction site that people are asking between $1500 and about $2200 and most aren't even in the correct case.

I'm sorry to hear that you dropped yours but that's why this one will probably never be carried,I do have a fob on it just to handle it as much as I do which isn't very much.I picked this one up one night at a local auction for $30.

As I caution people now days ... E-Bay is not a good gauge of value or a good place to sell.

The watch TOOLATE posted should, and still could bring a lot more. A one bid auction on eBay is not uncommon now days. BINs are the rule as people have to protect their items value.

I once posted two lots of 100 One Dollar Bills at $.99 and my wife nearly had a heart attack. Today, I would have the heart attack.

I know what your saying about ebay,I used to start a lot of auctions at .99 but it's gotten to the point that the only things that I put on there are things that I have a very comfortable margin on anymore you just never know.

My experience is that in most cases the over priced buy it nows don't sell. The market dictates price and what is ebay if not the market. We may not like it but it is... Check out how many watches are for sale there at any given time.

TOOLATE2 ... What I am saying is that the under priced BINs sell, if found. Price right, BINs sell. Too high BINs even sell sometimes.

But it is foolish to post a high dollar item now days at a low start.

6 plus years ago, I would start almost anything at .99 to 2.99 ... and I would realize the highest sell rates (near 100%) on one auction cycles and get more money for mine than like items.

Today, I can sell items locally, higher than I can the same item on eBay. As such, EBay is not THE market place standard for all items. I have bough and sold thousand of dollars over eBay in the past. Today i only go there to check some items to see what eBay is bringing and if they are selling. I often price it higher and sell it here.

I sold a size 6 pocket watch locally Friday for 65.00 that I would have done well to sell it on eBay for $30.00. The buyer knows pocket watches having more than a hundred at this time. He buys and sells, and I know he thinks, and likely does, have a place to sell it at a profit.

I knew $300.00 should be too low.

13 mins in the auction and still at $550.00

One bid sale. $550.00 ... again, I don't believe eBay is the best measure of the value of your watch.

    My opinion.

6 years ago, I would have told you differently.

AR8Jason, I think you should drink a little less coffee... Beau5278, If you want to sell your watch I think you should price it at whatever you think is fair and do so. An items real value is always whatever someone is willing to pay for it. If you're willing to wait for that someone to come along I'm sure you'll get your price. But remember, that's why you often see the same item sitting for years in the booth at antiques mall...

TOOLATE2 ... I need help cutting down on my coffee. The one and only cup I drank was in 1980. How can I cut down?
