This is one of 'those' pictures done just out-side of the main gate at NTC -San Diego, got it and had it sent home after graduation and before I got to my next duty... I wanted to be an IC man (Internal Communmications Tech) but was sent to the Repair Division on the Forrestal with out a hope of going to 'E' Division...so I became a Damage Controlman........end of story !

Thanks for all of the likes and loves.................don't we all have a time when we tought we looked our best ? But the Momma nature has her way and BOOM !
I really can't remember which gate, I was just glad to be off base we were in Basic Training so California was all very exotic to a boy from Ohio in 1963..........I wasn't very 'worldly'..................thanks Kevin
Great story, like I say it's been a while ( almost 50 years ) since this was done so the particulars are fuzzy........( I have been asleep since then ) this may even have been done at the 'gedunk' on the base.................f u z z y............
WOW! I have a picture like that as well, got it made just outside of the Rosecrans gate too! I went into bootcamp in San Diego in Dec 1985. Still have that picture! I was a boy from N.C. who didn't know anything about travel, and next thing I know I was in California!!!! What a culture shock, plus pure excitment!!! After boot camp, I attended Radioman "A" school there in San Diego for about 6 months, then headed to Connecticut for Submarine Schools. I loved Cali. and S.D. It's sad to here that the base is basically gone now. Some good memories there? What is there in place of the base now?
I love the handpainted quality of this photo, I have learned how to do this with the paints in the 1980's and even taught it shortly at that time. Doing it now on the computer - I love turning my old black and whites into color. This is a beautiful memento, doesn't get any better than this.
Thanks guys, I wish I still looked that good....................Those were the days !!!
Thank you for your service Pop!
