Well, it’s been a really long time since I’ve posted, but I found this trunk yesterday. It’s the first full-sized one that I’ve bought in a few years. It’s covered in tooled leather - most of which is still intact. It has five metal bands with brass buttons. It has a sort of fancy lock with a flower that looks like a tulip. I’m guessing this is probably from the mid-1800s but I’m not sure. I would love to hear any thoughts about age and any other info on this. Thanks for stopping by!
Nice find, I would say mid 1860's give or take a bit, but get those screws out of that lock, LOL, greendog.
Wow!! What a beauty this is!! Leather covered are my absolute favorites and this is such a beautiful example of the craftsmanship seen over 100 years ago. What condition is the interior in? I'd love to see that for sure. Incredible find!!
Thanks everybody.
Greendog, I am planning to replace the screws on the lock for sure!
Jscott, the inside isn’t too great. Has some paper that is coming off in a few places and no tray. The outside didn’t look too great either, but I’ve put some leather conditioner on it and polished the buttons. It’s still a work in progress right now.
Magnificent trunk... the lock is beautiful.. great find!
Thanks trunkman!
