Picked this 800 silver box up at a thrift store in Cincinnati today for a very modest price. Weighs a whopping 364 grams. Marked 800 then an indistinguishable mark and then a crown over an R. About 5 1/4" x 3 1/2" x 2 1/8".
German made? Any idea on the maker of this?

800 with crown(?) on the same line, then crown directly over R. Is it a mark for "silver" as in 800 Silver as in 925 Sterling? (Sure looks like a crown).

The marks on the same line look much older than the R under crown. Maybe one handle more often than the other.

Kyra knows the European silver marks - there are so many to go through on line, but I'll try and find the R under crown.

Oh my - I do need more caffeine!

      I need more than caffeine:

Searching for 800 (a.k.a. Coin, or European Silver) marks is difficult. I keep getting drawn into 'Hallmarks' for 925 Silver, of which there are literally hundreds and hundreds. Need someone elses help who wants to i.d. this box's mark.

@ keramikos - Your paragraph is a complete echo of a lot of my life here on CW.

Thanks for looking into this with me!!
@Keramikos, you are right, that does look like a crown also.
There are German Silver Boxes on ebay that look similar in style, but I haven't matched up the hallmark yet either.

Hi Y'all, what's got me puzzled is the weight! 800 could be German, Poland, Scandinavian (usually 830/850 I think) That's really heavy for just silverrrr, are there any other markings on it like weighted silver? Ok, now that just goes to show you what too much caffeine will do... silverrrr! haha

There is a similar dimensional German box (5 7/8" x 4" x 2 7/8") on ebay that is 343 grams and a second German Silver box at 386 grams 5.25" dia and 2.35" height. So I'm guessing that this one is right in line with being all 800 silver.
      No other markings.

Ugh, I thought that I nailed it when I came across this(see the last just attached pic that I found online), but they didn't list a maker.

Thanks Kermikos! Although all that info is interfering with me concentrating at my work today.... :)
I posted a little better pic of my hallmark. You can see either that they mis-stamped or restamped the 800 and first crown.

The maker is Friedrich Reusswig,Hanau,Germany, active 1903-1926.
      Identical mark here:
      https://www.sellingantiques.co.uk/242018/beautiful-german-silver-box-4-12-with-urns-by-friedrich-reusswig-c-1910/#
Millesimal fineness 800 cannot be before 1886/1888 when Reichsmark crescent and crown was legislated (the mark on the right of 800).
