    My grandfather left me this canteen. On top it has C D with what looks like a diamond on top of an equal sign in between the letters. In the middle the number 47. On the bottom it has N.Y.V. But the N is backwards.

      Spanish American War era canteen.

      The two strap slings (3 on Civil War) and thicker canvas cover (wool on Civil War) help to date it.
