My father bought this gas tank in the late 40's or early 50's from a local gas station in Illinois. We used it on the farm and when he retired from farming he gave it to me. I had it repainted in IL but moved to AZ and now I am going to have it repainted again. I am wondering if anyone can tell me what year the gas tank is and or what brand of gas it sold? We never had the crown on it and I purchased it later from an antique dealer. Also, what is the little door for on the upper right had side for with the arrow? I appreciate any answers to these questions. Thanks so much.

   If it were me, I'd have it restored and put inside somewhere. A very desirable Visible!
   Any visible pumps are very much in demand right now. to the right buyer in this condition you could get around $1800, more if restored correctly.

   The gas tank was a separate unit. You would pump the gas up into the cylinder until it reached the gallons needed. Then it put the gas in the car etc... via gravity flow. Could have been any brand of gas. The globe looks like "Crown Gasoline" but it's hard to tell from the pics. Google "Crown Gasoline" and compare to yours.
   
   I agree with Signaholic, I would have it pro restored and put it under cover.
