    (1 item)

    Bovet / Swiss Made
    Late 1800 - early 1900
Bo Wei on face and stamped inside.

It's a wind up which works 100% as I speak. It's double hinged. It's 2 tone. One side looks to be brass and the other silver. White face looks porcelain based on the hair line on the face not the cover glass.

I am the owner and I found this in a cedar chest along with WWII bringback items from 1945.

This is an interesting Timepiece, I'll sit back and see what everybody has to say about this one. As you noted late 1800's and later would be right, because Japan wasn't open for trade until the mid 1800's. The movement style says 19-teens and later to me. Thanks for sharing and hope someone has a diffenative answer for you

No help on the identification, but I like the dial & case markings.

All have good points. I even have a 20sec video of it ticking. It still holds it time. I'm not a watch collector but this watch just draws me in.

I do want to comment on the Orgin. I would like to translate the markings on the face to atleast know what it says. Guess I need to find a translator but which Orgin?

      Here's a link:
First, the Chinese characters at the time is right to left read, therefore, "mouth BroadWeb" and "mouth to take Yi" should be read left to right to do Bovet mouth and "Yi take mouth"; Secondly, the logo may be in accordance with the principle of Western language speech center to handle Chinese characters, then the "Bovet mouth" and "Yee take mouth" with "Bovet" (BOVET CO .) and Yi take pronunciation Although Chinese characters no "mouth Wei" and "mouth to get" the word, but in this case, the Swiss may be monosyllabic polysyllabic way of processing their language habits Chinese characters. Many of the watches museum watches exhibits mouth Broadweb "or" mouth to take Yi "logo, which the" mouth Wei "and" mouth to take "as a single Chinese character has appeared. Museum staff to ask my mouth Wei "and" mouth to take mean, they gave me the information provided, the watch company of the town's trade with China during the Qing Dynasty and the Republic had, therefore, many from the museum figurines of Chinese Buddhism, Taoism, Sun Yat-sen avatar stamps, "good luck" couplets pattern postcards.

After our mutual exchange of information, discussion, and eventually reached some conclusions: First, the Chinese characters at the time is right to left read, therefore, "mouth BroadWeb" and "mouth to take Yi" should be read left to right to do Bovet mouth and "Yi take mouth"; Secondly, the logo may be in accordance with the principle of Western language speech center to handle Chinese characters, then the "Bovet mouth" and "Yee take mouth" with "Bovet" (BOVET CO .) and Yi take pronunciation Although Chinese characters no "mouth Wei" and "mouth to get" the word, but in this case, the Swiss may be monosyllabic polysyllabic way of processing their language habits Chinese characters.
