Gotta love the women grenade assembly!
Grenade used by British Infantry to "clean out" enemy trenches.

    Actually they were not armed by striking the top with the hand as described. You can see the safety lever in the article.

    I think you are right, Blunder. There were earlier grenades that required striking, and I think the author applied the old information to the then new 1915 #5 Mills bomb, which had the now familiar pull-the-pin-and-throw method.
