This cabinet card was photographed in New York in about 1880 and shows a man wearing a Buffalo Coat and Hat.
At this time, as the buffalo were being hunted to near extinction in the West, the desire to wear Buffalo was at a high point. Hides were shipped back East to meet clothing demands as buffalo carcasses were left to rot on the plains.
