I wish I knew more..... Late 19th Century. Possibly Martin Maier. Restored in the 80's, with a few alterations that are wrong for the piece. But still unlike any trunk I've ever seen. More ornamentation on the exterior, 7 interior compartments that are all intact except for one hinge. Lithographs and color borders are in amazing condition. Beautiful. So ornate it makes me wonder if it belonged to royalty. Interior has a pencil signature "Rose S. P????" Perkins? Doesn't sound like royalty. But she must have been rich for her time. I hope it falls into the hands of a serious collector.

Oh my... beautiful trunk. This would be a maker's top of the line "Bride's Trunk", showing their best work. It is very beautiful and ornate and I have seen this type from time to time. The back hinge may tell you if it is a Martin Maier as he had his own patented hinges (and usually his own monogrammed hardware). Even if not his make certainly his standard in quality. Lovely to see,,, thanks for the post!

Wonderful to see the embossed leather and extra nail work on her. I love ornate
trunks that really speak to the victorian time period. The lid lifter does appear to
be missing but this could be found to make her whole. Thanks for the post A real
      nice piece for sure.
