This is a very lovely trunk and I would hazard a guess at early 1920's. I have seen this style and type before so they do come up often enough. It is in very good shape and wonderful to see the maker's label. Thanks for the post -- I am sure others with more knowledge on this trunk will comment..

What does the G.R.S.D stand for?
Also has some luggage tags from the London Midland & Scottish stuck too it.

The G.R.S.D. most likely are the initials of the first owner -- quality trunk makers would offer to initialize your trunk. Take a close look at the travel stickers to see if there is a date on them -- they are great to have as a part of this trunks history. I am thinking that maybe this was made in the early 1900's up to 1920.

A Very nice Finnigans Ltd. hard to tell from the photo if both exterior leather straps
a present or just one? Finnigans is one of the finer Trunk makers in the U.K. They would sometimes stamp the brass lock with their name. Many times that leather lock cover that is partially missing would be stamped as well. another small strap held this cover in position. Condition is everything and this one has a few issues but is in great shape for it's age. good luck and welcome to CW.

Has 2 straps although one has snapped in pices and has had a repair to it in the past.
      Lock has no stamp.
How old do you think trunk is?
    6. Drill Drill, 9 years ago
I think T-man is right on the money 1900's to 1920's. Finnigans expanded the business in or around 1900 to its New Bond street location(incidentally right down the street from the competition, Louis Vuittons New bond st. location)So this would make sense. The original Factory was in Deansgate in Manchester. They also were located in Liverpool. The hotel Sticker or any shipping labels could possibly tell us an even more accurate time frame with more investigation. Claremont LLANDUDNO 4 North Parade is located in Wales.
There is an address and possibly a name written on the label that may or may not correspond to the original owners initials/place of residence. Here is where You must do your homework!
Finnegans is a 19th century company mainly for their suitcases, and crocdile briefcases. http://WWW.Bentleys London.com located at 204 Walton St. London may be able to shed more light on the subject as they sell many of them. Much Luck
