Fork Art or Collectible, made from an old fork, into this item...any idea of its purpose? The fork is silverplate and looks like the date on back says 1878, but my eyes are too bad to read such small things.

i found it in my husbands things after he passed away. He owned a plumbing business in our small town . He had an old glass 5 gallon water bottle that over the years he nearly had filled with little things he would find under houses.
i even found a gold tooth in that jug! lol
thanks for your comments, if anyone has anymore info to share, please do.

It's a pendant. At the top they made the loop as a bale to hang on a necklace.

I would love to make some of the old jewelry out of the solid silver utensils. And yes eye, it was very popular back in the 70's.

Sorry to hear about your husband. I hope you cashed in that gold tooth! at least $50.00 ;)

I think it might be a homemade version of something like this: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/106224-art-deco-silver-gilt-filigree-carnelian?in=activity

These type of folkart is still made. I have a nice silver ring made from a small sugar or salt spoon. In our capital there is,a silversmith who makes things like this, but not with stones. Yours look vintage for sure. I'll post my ring someday.
