Whats the origin of this knife. Looks Spanish to me, found this in Ashburn Georgia when i was twelve years old. I am fifty two now. Always been curious.

Looks blacksmith made. By the mid 1800's & probably earlier, metal files seem to have become the steel of choice because of the high carbon content that kept a good sharp edge. (much better than stainless). As mere speculation, it could be Confederate, as most, if not all, were private purchases from their local blacksmiths. The famed "D guard" Confederate fighting knife is just one style as each were individual "1 of a kind". From that area, could be from the Columbus, GA campaign or just somebody who felt a need for a large knife. Really nice old knife & wish it could be proven to be Confederate. A study of the local CW history may up the odds. Bon chance.
Looks to be a Bowie type knife. It has the guard and the clip point. Looks all American to me. Probably was a blacksmith/home made and would be hard to find specific details about it. Could be 1830s, could be 1900s, hard to say.
